The Federation was formally organized on March 04, 1998 for the purpose of bringing together in one place all concerned institutions, industries and people dedicated to the keeping and management of exotic animals in captivity. It is composed of zoological institutions, various sectors of the pet industry (including pet shops and vets), association of breeders specializing in mammals, aviculture, and herpetoculture, as well as individual collectors, and anybody interested in animals.
It is also the goal of the Federation to help implement sound legislative regulations that protect the rights of animal enthusiasts to practice their avocation in a responsible manner while considering the welfare of the animals as well as that of the general public. The Federation aims to work hand in hand with concerned government agencies to find workable solutions on policies & regulations that have and will have an adverse impact to the growth of the industry. We will do our best to maintain a good rapport between the government and the private sector.
It is about time to abreast yourselves of the current and future policies, guidelines and restrictions of the Government. Keeping an exotic animal is no longer as simple as what it used to be. You may be committing a crime without knowing it. Republic Act # 8485 was recently signed into law, guidelines are now being framed up for the implementation. House Bill # 8265 (pending) makes it unlawful for anybody to possess undocumented wildlife and carries a maximum of 12 years imprisonment and a fine of up to 1 million pesos depending on the CITES status of the animals. This is a matter that warrants your utmost attention.
Get involved, know your rights, find out what is going on. Meet people of the same interest, share your knowledge, learn from each other, trade your surplus stocks. Regardless of whether you have a zoo or a single pet, your membership in the Federation is very valuable. We need your support and participation. Should you have any questions or if there is anything at all that we can do for you, please feel free to get in touch with us...
